I came across this gem while glancing through a book, Notes on Graphic Design and Visual Communication by Gregg Berryman. Short little book that cuts to the meat of what graphic design is with practical teachings and samples. This symbol designed for the California Conservation Corps symbol by Michael Vanderbyl really caught my eye. It’s done in four shapes, two black & two whites. It’s balanced with tension; stable and geometric. I love the simple shapes repeated throughout and the message it communicates. It has very efficient use of white space. Now if I can only do the same for a wasp…

I checked out a book called, “Paul Rand Conversations with Students” from the school library today. I read something interesting today about the process of design. He splits it up into three separate stages.

I found out about this group, Playing for Change after watching The Tonight Show with Conan o’ Brien and decided to do some more research. This is quoted from their website:

I really like the grass roots feel of the whole thing and the idea of different people speaking different languages, but all playing the same song. This video is a cover of Sam Cooke’s “Bring it on home to me.” Cooke is probably one of the greatest artist overlooked by many. This cover was filmed right at 3rd Santa Monica Promenade, where I used to go all the time! Enjoy this real soulful performance that’s better than 90% of the junk on the radio.
