Bring it on home to me

I found out about this group, Playing for Change after watching The Tonight Show with Conan o’ Brien and decided to do some more research. This is quoted from their website:

I really like the grass roots feel of the whole thing and the idea of different people speaking different languages, but all playing the same song. This video is a cover of Sam Cooke’s “Bring it on home to me.” Cooke is probably one of the greatest artist overlooked by many. This cover was filmed right at 3rd Santa Monica Promenade, where I used to go all the time! Enjoy this real soulful performance that’s better than 90% of the junk on the radio.

Summer.

I haven’t been able to post as much lately just because of my new job. I’m working about 30 hrs/week average. Man I miss those days when I could just wake up late, browse the web for inspiration, watch lynda.com videos, take “fun” classes, chill at borders for hours reading design magazines/books, and stay up late catching up on shows. But it’s time for me to stop playing so much and get more serious. Now my days are more structured around work. This means I need much  dicipline to make sure I am always productive. When I start the graphic design program at Sacramento State, I’ll have no free time between class and work and church. I’m excited about the program, but really dreading the sleepless nights and constant stress from the overload.

This summer I need to learn and apply some serious time management skills if I want to get through th next few years alive. But for the meantime, I’m grateful that I can now pay my way through college and have some free time to play and enjoy the outdoors. I’ll be going on a couple of trips, one road trip and a family visit to Denver. I’ll definitely post some pictures of my experiences there. Lately I’ve been getting more into photography since my 50mm 1.8 is still relatively new. I still haven’t gotten too much time to play with that lens yet. There’s so much potential with that lens and hope that it’ll help improve my eye. I’m also trying to do more creative graphic art pieces as opposed to design. The type of graphic art I really love is minimal, technological, and geometric work, such as SKYNERVE.

Lastly, I’m currently finishing up a book called, “Design Elements: A Graphic Style Manual” by Timothy Samara. It’s a great read that covers graphic design fundamentals such as color theory, layout, typography, and space. I’ll write a post about it when I’m done.
